Product forms

Two forms, one origin.

Which form you need depends on your process. Both come from the same partner mill and the same Uruguayan clip, and both are offered with the lot's laboratory values.

01 · Wool tops

Combed tops for worsted spinning

Scoured, carded and combed sliver, ready for gilling and worsted spinning. Tops are the most processed form of raw wool: short fibres, neps and vegetable matter have been combed out and the fibre lies aligned in a continuous sliver. This is the product form that accounts for most of Uruguay's wool exports.

02 · Scoured wool

Scoured wool for woollen processing

Greasy wool that has been sorted, scoured and dried, with grease, suint and most of the dirt removed. Supplied for woollen spinning, carding, felting and nonwovens, or for combing at destination. Each lot is tested by an independent laboratory before it is invoiced.

Fineness

17 to 30 micron, specified lot by lot.

Mean fibre diameter is the first number every buyer asks for. The mill's usual production range covers the three bands below; individual lots are offered with their measured values.

17–21µm

Superfine and fine

Fine worsted knitwear, next-to-skin garments and lightweight suiting. The highest-value part of the clip.

21–24µm

Medium-fine

Classic worsted yarns for knitwear, socks and everyday apparel — the workhorse range for European spinners.

24–30µm

Medium

Woollen and carded yarns, felt, blankets, upholstery and technical applications where bulk and resilience matter.

Finer or coarser lots may be available on request. Length, vegetable matter and colour are specified alongside fineness; see the certificate data below for the parameters reported per lot.

Processing at origin

From greasy wool to export bale.

Photographed at our partner mill in July 2026. The whole chain — sorting, scouring, carding, combing and pressing — happens under one roof in Uruguay.

  1. Greasy wool in the opening bin

    01Sorting

Fleeces are classed by fineness, length and contamination before they enter the line.

  2. Rakes moving wool through a scouring bowl

    02Scouring

Grease, suint and dirt are removed in a series of scour bowls; the wool is then dried.

  3. Slivers being drafted on a gill box

    03Carding & gilling

Fibres are opened, aligned and drafted into a continuous sliver.

  4. Combed web checked by hand

    04Combing

Short fibres and remaining vegetable matter are combed out; the result is the top.

  5. Numbered bales stacked in the mill warehouse

    05Press-packing

Tops or scoured wool are press-packed into bales of approx. 400 kg, numbered and stored for loading.

How pricing works

Quoted per operation, on the market of the day.

Wool is priced when you order, against the lot on offer. Four things move the number more than anything else.

01

Fineness and form

Finer micron and combed tops are priced above coarser lots and scoured wool.

02

Quantity and continuity

A 40 ft load and yearly programmes are quoted differently from a single 20 ft container.

03

Specification

Length, colour, vegetable-matter limits and certification requirements are part of the number.

04

Delivery term

FOB Montevideo or CIF: freight and insurance are added on request.

No public price lists and no minimum quantities on this website. Terms are discussed individually with each buyer.
